DYDC celebrating ST. PATRICK´S day

2010 St. Patrick Parade

DYDC is taking part again this year in the annual favorite St. Patrick´s parade which theme for 2010 is an ‘Extraordinary World’
The festival parade features highly original street theatre troupes, artists, giant puppetry, dancers and marching bands from Ireland and across the globe.

“The Sky is the Limit”
was the theme of last year St. Patrick´s amazing parade.
DYDC took part with the Flights of Fancy, a group created by a collective of four artist of Sligo that brought the best of the carnival tradition to Dublin with wishes and dreams and a splash of color that shined more with the lucky sunny day of this year parade.

Heading by the Garuda Bird, by Emergency Exit Arts, UK, and accomplished by Jaipur Maharaja Brass Band, seven musicians and a fakir who drove brass rhythms, traditional Rajastan folk music and a touch of Hindustani classical music.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is delighted to present |Tran-si-tion| by Dublin Youth Dance Company, as part of the Place & Identity per cent for art programme of commissions.

This exciting dance performance will take place on Thursday 3rd December 2009, in the Pavilion Theatre in Dun Laoghaire, at 8.00 p.m. Booking: (01) 2312929 or online at www.paviliontheatre.ie.

|Tran-si-tion| is an exciting and absorbing dance project involving transition-year students from Rockford Manor Secondary School, senior members of Dublin Youth Dance Company and Artistic Director Mariam Ribón.

They have been working together to develop this dance performance since January 2009, through ongoing workshops and rehearsals.

Dublin Youth Dance Company’s |Tran-si-tion| project is part of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council’s ‘Place & Identity’ programme of Per Cent for Art commissions funded through the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.

The programme encompasses a range of art forms, including theatre, music, dance, visual art and literature, covers the entire county and involves local people as both participants and audience.

9th Annual Youth Dance Festival

The Irish Youth Dance Festival celebrates its 9th edition on the 4th and 5th of July.

This widely recognized youth dance festival will showcase the finest young dancers from a broad range of dance genders including, contemporary, ballet and aerial dance. In addition to the main stage performances there will be workshops, classes and atelier showings.

The participating dance companies and artists include: Dublin Youth Dance Company, Ballet West, CoisCéim Creative Steps, Kerry Youth Dance Theatre, Jane Flynn and Nathalie Grant, Irish National Youth Ballet, National Youth Dance Company, Liv O’Donoghue, Wexford Youth Dance Company, Kildare Youth Dance Company, Offaly Youth Dance and Inchicore College of Further Education. This year’s guest company is Flash Dance Company from the Czech Republic.

Events during the festival include:

  • Saturday, 4th July: Main Stage PerformanceA highlight of the festival will be a showcase of performances by national and international dance groups at the Pavilion Theatre in Dun Laoghaire starting at 7.30 pm. Tickets: €16/14/10 Booking: (01) 2312929 or online at www.paviliontheatre.ie
  • Sunday, 5 July: Irish Youth Dance Atelier FestivalGuest artists Karla Holdan (Ireland) and Lenka Halasova (Czech Republic) will lead participants in workshops and classes at Dance Theatre of Ireland’s Centre for Dance from 11.00 to 2.00 pm. At 3.30 pm there will be atelier performances. Admission is free but prior booking is required.

DLR Per Cent for Art Programme Place & Identity presents |Tran-si-tion| by DYDC

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is delighted to present |Tran-si-tion| by DYDC, as part of the Place & Identity per cent for art programme of commissions.

Three exciting dance performances will take place on Saturday 16th May 2009, in Cabinteely Park at 12.00 p.m., 2.00 p.m. and 4.00 p.m. Admission to the performances is free. Everyone is welcome and booking is not required.

In addition, there will be an opportunity to take part in free dance workshops at 12.30 p.m. (6-9 yrs), 2.30 p.m. (10-14 yrs) and 4.30 p.m. (over 15 yrs). Places for these workshops are limited and booking is essential.  Just contact Victoria O´Brien to book your place in advance: 085 7162743.
