DYDC was initiated by DTI Artistic Directors Robert Connor & Loretta Yurick who approached then Company Member/dancer JJ Formento to lead a Youth Dance Company to be based at Dance Theatre of Ireland’s Centre for Dance. The Dublin Youth Dance Company was founded to give young people the opportunity to engage in training, creating and performing dance on an ongoing basis.
In the year 2000, JJ Formento formed a group and set up the foundations of DYDC.
